Preparation Steps
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Gradually mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Alternately add flour and milk, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.
  6. Pour batter into prepared pans and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow cakes to cool completely before frosting and creating ruffles.
