Preparation Steps
  1. In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter and sugar until creamy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until dough forms.
  4. Divide the dough into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F. Roll out dough on a floured surface to ¼ inch thickness.
  6. Cut out cookies with your favorite shapes and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Let cool before decorating.
