  • 3 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 18 oz bottle BBQ sauce e.g., Sweet Baby Ray's Hickory & Brown Sugar
  • 0.33 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 0.25 teaspoon chipotle chili powder (optional, for a little heat)
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground white pepper

Method
 

Preparation Steps
  1. Place chicken breasts in the slow cooker. Set to low heat.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the BBQ sauce, light brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, chipotle chili powder, and white pepper. Whisk until well combined.
  3. Pour the BBQ sauce mixture over the chicken in the slow cooker. Stir to coat all the chicken evenly.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours, until the chicken is tender and easily pulls apart.
  5. Once cooked, use two forks to shred the chicken directly in the slow cooker. Stir the shredded chicken into the BBQ sauce until fully coated.
  6. Serve the shredded BBQ chicken on toasted hamburger buns or with your favorite sides.
