Preparation Steps
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8x8 inch baking pan.
- In a medium saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Remove from heat and stir in granulated sugar and cocoa powder until smooth.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
- Let brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
- While brownies are cooling, prepare the spiderweb frosting. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add black food coloring and mix until evenly colored.
- Once brownies are completely cool, spread the black frosting evenly over the top.
- To create the spiderweb, place a few small dots of white frosting (or thinned white icing) in concentric circles on top of the black frosting. Use a toothpick to drag lines from the center outwards to create the web effect. Alternatively, use a piping bag with a fine tip.
- Cut brownies into squares and serve.
